You will quickly discover how gracious and welcoming everyone is. Start and end each day with the sights and sounds of the surf in this sleepy fishing village on Nicaraguas west coast. El Tránsito is, with the road now in good shape, the closest beach to Managua in terms of time it takes to get there. It also arguably has some of the best waves around and they go unridden for days.
This is a really neat town. Its one of the few beach towns where the tourism hasn’t managed to overtake the local economy. Fishermen head out in their pangas as surfers scoot out of their way. The town has a baseball diamond and a lively community of about 500. If you’re lucky, a rodeo or other event will be held up in the town square during your stay.
As far as the surf goes, try the long, easy, left pointbreak, or the hollower right on the other side of town. At the right time of day enjoy the spectacular force of the waves cresting over the rocks and turning the pools into refreshing natural jacuzzis.
It is a great place. The people who live there are happy and content in their circumstances. This community is innocent, safe, and wholesome. The beach has fantastic surf. The sunsets are unforgettable. The streets and beaches are clean and safe. Serious crime does not exist there. Overall, people are motivated and excited about new education and work opportunities.
