🏄 Surf Lessons with a Local Pro – $40 per hour
Get coached right on El Tránsito’s signature left point break, just steps from the hostel. It’s a long, forgiving wave with plenty of room to practice trim, turns, and timing. On the right day, we’ll also paddle over to the punchier rights at the far end of town for a change of pace.

The area offers a mix of reef sections and sand-bottom takeoffs, making it safe and friendly for beginners while still challenging enough for advanced surfers looking to sharpen their style. With frequent offshores and glassy mornings, the waves stay clean and consistent—perfect for steady progression under the guidance of a local pro who knows these breaks inside and out.

📍 Duration: 1 hour (extendable)
💲 Price: $40 per person, per hour
🏄 Includes: Surf coaching, board rental available on request

🐎 Greenbelt Horseback Adventure – $40 per person
This is the ride people talk about when they visit El Tránsito. After a short A/C truck ride to the farm, your horses will be saddled up and waiting for you. From there, you’ll set off on a five-mile trail that follows the river, winding through shady trees, open stretches, and even cutting right into the water where the horses splash through.

The river keeps the ride cool, green, and full of life—it’s the backbone of the countryside here. Along the way, it’s common to run into local ranchers driving their cattle to water, and you may even get the chance to join them, guiding the herd like a true Nicaraguan vaquero.

Our horses are strong and sure-footed, perfect for both beginners and those who want to open them up for a run. It’s an authentic adventure and one of the best ways to experience the wild beauty of El Tránsito.

📍 Duration: About 2 hours (5 miles along the river)
💲 Price: $40 per person
🐎 Includes: A/C truck transfer, saddled horse, and local guide

La Poza Swimming Hole

The famous “La Poza” swimming hole is an absolute ‘must-do’ while you are here. If you are adventurous and lucky enough to be here on a brightly moonlit night, go then! Its helpful to have gone at least once in the daytime first though. Here are some tips:

  • Dont get trapped there at high tide or you’ll be swimming back to town. Go on your own or have a guide show you around first. ($20)
  • Relax! There are no sea urchins or anything spikey in this area. Its a soft sandy bottom. If you are a good swimmer you will have no issues.
  • Stay closer to the rock face while swimming if the waves are big or you can be washed up onto the rock shelf.

Go on your own or take the tour. The tour is two hours and comes with drinks and inner tubes to ride the waves in true tourist form! Dont get caught there at the wrong time.

Reserve a private table for two at your preferred time and we'll be ready for you!

Miramar All Day Surf Excursion $80 (8 hrs). An air-conditioned Toyota Hilux will take you and bring you back. Add $50 for a local surf pro to accompany you and introduce you to the break like nobody new could on their own.

Snorkeling the Northern Tidepools – $30
Discover the magic hidden just below the surface of El Tránsito’s northern tidepools. With a local guide and all equipment included, this tour lets you explore the crystal-clear shallows where colorful fish, crabs, and other sea life thrive.

The tidepools are calm, protected, and perfect for beginners as well as seasoned snorkelers. Your guide will show you the best spots, explain the local marine life, and make sure you feel safe and comfortable the whole time.

It’s a relaxed, refreshing way to connect with nature and see a different side of El Tránsito’s coastline.

📍 Duration: About 1.5–2 hours (depending on tides)
    💲 Price: $30 (per person)

**Summary:** Current conditions at El Tránsito are not fully reported, so tide, swell, wind, and weather details are unavailable. Surfers should remain cautious and check updates before heading out.
    Full Surf Report
Tide information is currently unavailable, so be aware of local variations. Swell details are missing, but southwest swells generally offer the best surf at El Tránsito when combined with light offshore winds from the northeast. Wind data is not provided; however, an offshore breeze enhances wave quality here. Weather conditions remain unknown; always verify local forecasts for rain or storms. The moon phase and tide range effects are unreported but can influence surf quality. At the spots: – El Tránsito: Best with southwest swell and northeast offshore winds. Watch for occasional rips and rocks. – La Bocana: Offers powerful waves, suitable for experienced surfers. – Punta Miramar: Usually consistent, good for all skill levels. – Puerto Sandino: Tends to have hollow waves favored by advanced surfers. Board choice should match conditions once swell and wind details are confirmed, typically mid-sized shortboards or funboards work well here. Skill level recommendations depend on actual surf size and wind, so assess carefully. Tomorrow outlook: Without swell and wind forecasts, conditions remain uncertain. Check updated local reports closer to the time for planning your session safely.

    Best Swells

El Tránsito lights up on SW to SSW swells (180°–215°), but it also handles clean W pulses and even some NW energy under 290°. Medium periods under 16s are ideal — once it stretches beyond that, the main bay can shut down. Don’t worry though, there are other breaks within walking distance that thrive on long-period juice.

    Seasons & Winds

While most of Nicaragua fires in May–October, here we love the so-called “off season” (Nov–Mar) — it’s rarely under waist-high. Offshore breezes blow steady from the NE/E, keeping the faces clean without turning brutal. Water stays warm year-round, though you might want a 1mm top Jan–Mar.

    The Breaks

The main beach is a sandy beachbreak with mellow walls, playful barrel sections, and medium-length rides — friendly for all levels. Best from waist to 1ft overhead, especially on an incoming tide, but it breaks across most tides.
